Syracuse, two American students raped: the two culprits arrested

The State Police of Syracuse at dawn this morning gave execution of a detention order of a person suspected of crime issued by the local Public Prosecutor's Office, which ordered the imprisonment of an eighteen-year-old and a nineteen-year-old, both originally from Syracuse, seriously suspected of the crime of aggravated sexual assault against two American students.

The investigative activity, given the seriousness of the disputed facts, it was carried out immediately after the events, which occurred during the night of July 3rd, and was conducted by investigators from the Syracuse Flying Squad, under the careful coordination of the local Public Prosecutor's Office.

To verify the information gathered, during the investigation it was possible to ascertain that the two young women, American students on a study holiday in Syracuse, after spending a cheerful evening in Ortigia, while they were returning homea, they came approached by two boys on a scooter near the so-called Marina.

The predicted ones, under the pretext of asking to borrow documents needed to go to the cigarette vending machine, they entertained the girls taking advantage of their naivety, of the night time and the difficulty in understanding the Italian language.

Subsequently the two young women were forced to separate, suffering the violence of the attackers in different places.

One of the incidents took place at a viewpoint near the Ortigia seafront, the other inside a house located nearby.

The next morning the two young students reported the incident.

The detectives of the Mobil Squadand, with the help of the policemen of the State Police Commissariat of Ortigia they started detailed investigations which allowed the identification of the two responsible.

During the activities they came acquired numerous elements to corroborate the declarations of the offended parties, several individuals informed of the facts were examined, essential inspections were carried out for the reconstruction of the two crime scenes, transcribed various computer contents, all elements found to be indispensable for contesting the charges against those arrested today.

The investigative activity carried out allowed us to summarize a substantial evidentiary framework which determined the Prosecutor's Office to agree with the proposed investigative hypothesis, and to issue a precautionary measure against the suspects.

At the end of the ritual tasks, the suspects were transported to the local Cavadonna prison at the disposal of the prosecuting judicial authority.
