Scicli (RG): Carabinieri checks on environmental matters continue

The services of the Carabinieri Company of Modica continue constantly in the area of ​​competence environmental Protection.

Thanks to the numerous overflights and the active collaboration of the Carabinieri Helicopter Unit of Catania and the precious contribution of the colleagues of the Natura Anti-crime Center of Agrigento, the soldiers employed in the daily prevention services were able to ascertain, thanks to the specialized component, the compliance with current legislation on environmental matters.

In fact, following aerial reconnaissance, an intervention was requested to verify a site in the Scicli area, subject to alleged illegal landfills. The device set up carried out a thorough inspection activity on the land and buildings of interest, at the conclusion of which father and son were referred, respectively a 67 year old, retired and censured for the same type of crimes, and a 32 year old worker. The interested parties were responsible, within a plot of land they owned of approximately 500 mXNUMX, for the construction of a uncontrolled storage of dangerous and non-hazardous special waste, of various nature, used for the decommissioning and dismantling of end-of-life vehicles.

Specifically they were found portions of motor vehicles, transmission parts, containers with paints and oily substances inside attributable to body shop activities, as well as various materials useful for construction work. After notifying the Ragusa Public Prosecutor's Office, the military activated the appropriate procedures to secure the area, immediately placed under seizure. The result achieved by the operators summarizes the ability of the Corps to also turn its attention to the protection of the environment which, especially in recent years, is one of the primary objectives of the Institution.
