Sassari, "I defend myself, with knowledge and prudence", continues the awareness campaign against scams by the local police

Sassari, continues the awareness campaign "I defend myself, with knowledge and prudence", organized by the local police, aimed at the elderly. The objective is first of all to warn potential scam victims, who often belong to an age group that more often trusts shrewd and unscrupulous people. For this reason, local police officers organized a series of meetings in the city parishes, at the end of the functions. After those of the past few days, in the church of Mater Ecclesiaste and at the Immaculate Heart, which had a great participation, on the 19th the agents of the Command in via Carlo Felice will be in the church of San Gavino a Bancali and on the 26th in that of San Pio to Li Punti. At the end of the religious function the agents will go up to the pulpit and explain to those present some simple tips to avoid being scammed. Information brochures will also be distributed. The project is funded by the Ministry of the Interior.

After this first phase, the local police will organize other meetings in the offices of associations, communities and other local entities that work with the elderly. Meanwhile, already in these days, the brochures created for the project by the Command are distributed in the three city mobile stations.

In the information material, which is easy to read and indicates the emergency numbers to contact for help and an email address, there is very practical advice: never give money to strangers who say they are officials of public or private bodies; do not open the door to people you don't know and always check through the peephole. Always use the door chain if you need to receive packages or sign documents; Particular attention must be paid to door-to-door sales and avoided as much as possible. If you inadvertently open the door to a stranger and feel uncomfortable, it is better not to lose your calm and invite the stranger to come out, opening the door and repeating the invitation in a louder voice, so that the neighbors can hear and come to help.

A very serious problem, which the Command draws attention to, is that the scammer is normally a clever person, who knows how to gain the trust of the victim, to then betray her for his own advantage. Take advantage of the moment in which the person is perhaps distracted and often acts when leaving a bank or post office.
