Sanremo Festival, the Police guaranteed the cybersecurity of the 74th Italian Song Festival. Collaboration between the Postal Police and Rai operators.

The State Police guaranteed the cybersecurity of the 74th Sanremo Italian Song Festival, with specialized operators from the Postal Police. For the optimal success of the event also from the point of view of IT security, the collaboration between the experts of the Postal Police and the ICT security operators of the Rai.

With constant and synergistic action, which began weeks before the singing competition, they acted to protect the digital infrastructure from possible forms of attack coming from Cyberspace.

It was precisely the worldwide exposure of an event like the Sanremo Festival, also the "most social and digital ever", to transform it into a sensitive objective in that borderless conflict that is being fought for the conquest of cyber domination. The cyber security apparatus guaranteed by the State Police and the Rai - Italian Radio and Television fits well into this context.

The specialized structure of the State Police responsible for cyber security was in fact "behind the scenes" of the Festival, with a team of operators from the CNAIPIC and NOSC of the Liguria Cyber ​​Security Operations Center and the Operations Section of the Imperia Postal Police dedicated to the protection of the ICT infrastructure to support the event and the official social profiles used during the event.

The close collaboration between the Postal Police and the technical representatives responsible for the infrastructure ICT RAI, both before and during the event, thus contributed to raising the level of cyber security across the entire perimeter of the RAI technological infrastructure.

During the Festival, continuous monitoring was carried out on the internet network, on the deep and dark web in search of possible physical and/or cyber threats to the regular running of the event, a "virtual patrol" which also involved the groups present on the main social and messaging platforms, with particular attention to possible profiles of relevance for public order and safety and the main hacker crews and forums sector.

But not only that: the link between music, the undisputed protagonist of the Sanremo event, and the internet is increasingly close in younger generations whose songs travel through the internet, digital instruments and the use of platforms.

Therefore, Sanremo could not miss "Una Vita da Social", the traveling educational campaign of the State Police in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Merit and the support of Google created for children, to delve deeper into all aspects of online security and promote conscious and responsible use of the internet. The Postal Police welcomed on board the iconic truck symbol of the initiative - positioned in Piazza Colombo, a stone's throw from the Ariston Theater - over 1000 students, and another 600 took part in the events dedicated to online safety at the Palafiori Congress Center as part of the collateral activities of “CasaSanremo”.

There were also many artists who wanted to bring their testimony and their message to the public for a respectful and aware use of social media and platforms, tools for spreading messages of sharing, inclusion and respect, and the invitation to contact the Police with confidence.
