Rossano: Checks to combat illegal immigration, 42-year-old reported and 5 expulsions from the territory initiated
The Carabinieri of the Operational and Radiomobile Sections of the Territorial Department of Corigliano Rossano, with the investigative coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Castrovillari, directed by Chief Prosecutor Alessandro D'Alessio, in the urban area of Rossano have reiterated one of the services aimed at countering the phenomenon of "aiding and abetting the clandestine presence of foreigners on the national territory" and all other related violations of the Law, with particular reference to the "granting of real estate for a fee to illegal foreign citizens".
At the end of the operations it was a 42-year-old local man was reported to the Judicial Authority, and two real estate units were also seized from him. Before continuing with the reconstruction of the facts, it seems appropriate to specify that the news is being released to guarantee the prerogatives of information and in compliance with the rights of the suspect - still to be considered subject to the presumption of innocence, given the current stage of the proceedings, whose criminal responsibilities can be ascertained only through a sentence that has become irrevocable.
It is now well known that in this particular period of the year non-EU citizens arrive in extremely large numbers in various areas of the municipality of Corigliano Rossano, with a particular incidence in contexts where they find greater possibilities for accommodation. Areas of aggregation where sometimes riots and other critical issues occur, which make integration difficult and have repercussions on the perception of safety by citizens.
Some of the foreigners who arrive, attracted by the employment opportunities that the "Sibaritide plain" offers in this period, are not however in order to be able to stay in our country. Their use, the concessions in a broad sense and the rental of the structures can, in these cases, contemplate the crime of "aiding and abetting illegal immigration".
The prospect of attractive earnings, however, pushes some residents to rent their empty homes – especially at this time of year – to non-EU citizens without any permit authorising them to remain in the national territory. Often dilapidated homes or single converted garages, where a large number of foreigners are crammed in, living in terrible hygienic and sanitary conditions and in environments that are anything but healthy.
In light of this emergency situation, having ascertained the absence of regular contracts and having taken into account the regulatory provisions established by the "consolidated law on immigration", the two apartments identified in the urban area of Rossano and rented to illegal immigrants have been subjected to criminal seizure, for subsequent and possible confiscation.
During the operations, five "decrees of expulsion from the national territory" issued by the Prefect of Cosenza were also executed and five other "orders from the Police Commissioner to leave the national territory within seven days" were notified.. The services to combat the phenomenon of exploitation of the poverty conditions of non-EU citizens will be reiterated by the force in the coming weeks.
