Rosarno, Reggio Calabria: over 188 kg of marijuana, a rifle and ammunition. Arrested by the Carabinieri.

The Carabinieri of the Gioia Tauro Company, during a series of checks carried out in the Gioia Tauro plain, they arrested a local man in Contrada Bosco di Rosarno, multi-convict, accused of illicit possession of large quantities of narcotic substances, as well as illicit possession of common firearms and ammunition.

In particular, the soldiers, with the active support of a Carabinieri team from the "Calabria" Helicopter Hunters Squadron, combed through some homes and, in extending the search to the exclusive appurtenances of one of them, they found numerous bags containing marijuana, for a total weight exceeding 188 kg.

During searches in the same place, the military also found a twenty grams of hashish, an illegally possessed hunting rifle, as well as ammunition 20 caliber, 7.65 caliber and 357 caliber, for a total of 80 rounds for common firearms, also illegally detained.

For the man, who assumed paternity of the narcotic and who initially tried to justify its presence, presenting documentation regarding the legal detention - documents considered by the Carabinieri to be completely inadequate - handcuffs were put in place and, in agreement with the Authority Judicial of Palmi, he was associated with that prison.

All the material was seized, also for subsequent analysis at the specialized laboratories of the Army.

The kidnapping is part of the constant fight against illegal plantations and the spread of marijuana carried out by the Carabinieri Company of Gioia Tauro and, in relation to the numerous presence of bags with only inflorescences, it is characterized by being one of the most significant in recent years.

This is without prejudice to subsequent decisions, even positive ones, regarding the suspect, whose criminal proceedings are currently in the preliminary investigation phase.
