Rome: Neapolitan scammer on a trip to Padua stopped and arrested by the State Police during the “return trip”

Rome: Neapolitan scammer on a trip to Padua stopped and arrested by the State Police during the “return trip”.

He had gone to Padua to carry out his “away” scams, but was intercepted and arrested by State Police officers of the Judicial Police Squad of the Polfer Sub-section.

The search for the man began following a note sent by the Flying Squad of the Padua Police Headquarters, which reported a scam perpetrated against an elderly woman living in that capital. The alleged perpetrator, captured in several stills, allegedly went by taxi to the “Venezia Mestre” train station and then boarded a train headed for Naples.

When the agents of the Capitoline State Police intercepted him at the Rome Termini station, they had no doubts: seeing that the man's features perfectly matched the description provided in the broadcast note, they immediately stopped him, asking him where he had left from and where he was headed.

Despite his attempt to deceive them by declaring that he had taken the train in Florence, his travel document immediately contradicted this. The man, in fact, had arrived from Venice.

At that point, the check was immediately triggered. Inside the backpack he was carrying, there was still all the stolen goods reported by the victim: gold jewelry, jewels and watches for a total value of about 300.000 euros in addition to 200 euros in cash.

Immediately taken to the police station for the usual checks, the man – a forty-six year old Neapolitan – ended up in handcuffs because he was seriously suspected of the crime of fraud.

In any case, the accused is to be considered presumed innocent, in consideration of the current phase of the proceedings, that is, that of the preliminary investigations, until a definitive determination of guilt with an irrevocable sentence.
