Rome, “A Room of One’s Own”: a space dedicated to protected listening for women victims of violence has been inaugurated at the III Public Safety District “Fidene Serpentara”.
It took place yesterday morning, at the headquarters of the III Public Safety District “Fidene Serpentara”, the inauguration of the “room of one’s own”: a project created thanks to the collaboration between the State Police and the extraordinary members of Soroptimist International, born with the intention of creating a space within which the judicial police have the possibility of dedicating themselves to the protected listening of fragile people, in a context where victims of violence and children can breathe the clean air of RESPECT.
In this sense, an effective action to eradicate violence against women “it must start from an 'institutional group' that is united in the logic of commitment, in the objective of a cultural sharing of good behaviors that can be summarized in the word respect”said the Police Chief Massucci.
It is the same etymology of the word respect (from the Latin re-spice), in fact, which brings us back to the ratio of “a room of one’s own” and the importance of allocating a protected space to those women who have the courage to report and who seek in our uniform a safe haven in which to take refuge. It means «look around and see if there is someone in difficulty, who has fallen behind, to bring back to our level: and that is all that can happen in this room, that It must be a place of comfort, where the logic of respect finds a home. This is a room all to oneself».
