A forty-year-old Peruvian man was arrested on suspicion of crime by the Rimini State Police for the crime of aggravated improper robbery in competition.
On the evening of August 29, 2024, two men of South American origin were responsible for the robbery of a gold chain and two wedding rings from an 88-year-old man who, at that time, was in the garden of his home located in Rimini, Lagomaggio area.
The attackers had it approached with the excuse of asking for road information and, taking advantage of the old man's good faith, they had him brutally attacked, tearing the jewelry from his neck and causing him to fall to the ground, acting recklessly and without caring about the presence of the carer, who was helplessly witnessing the scene.
In the event the elderly man suffered numerous lacerations to his body and a fractured nasal septum, injuries deemed curable by the health workers of the local hospital with a prognosis of 15 days. The perpetrators of the serious crime had immediately managed to disappear, covering their tracks.
The Mobile Squad personnel, who intervened immediately, had placed themselves in a relentless search for the two perpetrators of the crime, even though they seemed to have vanished into thin air, given the absence of video surveillance systems on the site and in the vicinity of the place of the event. From the first findings obtained from the investigation activity, the investigators' attention was focused on some subjects of Peruvian origin, one of whom in particular was already known to the police force.
The latter, without a stable abode, was tracked down in the early hours of yesterday afternoon while he was seeking hospitality from a fellow countrywoman living in Rimini. The same, at the time of the check, he had clumsily attempted to get rid of a package containing a yellow gold chain and two wedding rings, material certainly attributable to the tear perpetrated against the elderly man.
After the victim and the caregiver had recognized the subject, given the legal requirements, the Peruvian was arrested on suspicion of crime and taken to the local prison at the disposal of the Judicial Authority for the subsequent validation procedure.
The recovered valuables were returned to the rightful owner, who thus regained possession of his assets of high sentimental value: the wedding date was engraved on the wedding rings and one had belonged to his wife who died last year.
