The Agents of the Flying Squad of the Rieti Police Headquarters and of the Viminale PS Commissariat of the Rome Police Headquarters arrested the Nigerian citizen who had escaped after the execution of a precautionary custody order in prison, ordered by the local Judicial Authority against him for the crime of aggravated robbery, perpetrated against an elderly woman in the city centre.

In fact, last month the foreigner was arrested in Rieti by State Police agents when, armed with a knife, he robbed an elderly woman who was walking in the Piazza Cavour area. The man, after the validation of the arrest by the Judicial Authority, was released pending the subsequent criminal trial.

State Police investigators, in the meantime, have collected further evidence regarding the man's serious responsibilities in the criminal episode, which led the Judicial Authority to issue a precautionary custody order in prison, which was immediately carried out.

During this activity, however, the foreigner, committing violence against the agents who had arrested him, managed to escape and lose his traces.

The investigators of the State Police, thanks to an effective coordination activity with the corresponding offices of the Capital, have, in a few days, tracked him down and arrested him in Rome, last night, while he was in the company of his Italian partner, engaged in the planned escape to avoid the legal consequences of the committed crime.

After a chase carried out by State Police Agents in the very center of the Capital, despite their vigorous resistance, the two fugitives were immobilized and, while the foreigner was arrested and taken to the Court of Rome for direct judgement, at the end of which he was associated at the local prison, the woman was reported in a state of freedom for the crime of aiding and abetting.

As part of the criminal proceedings instituted against them, any criminal liability will be ascertained by the Judge.
