Reggio Calabria, special waste was burned in an illegal landfill: five precautionary measures issued

In the early hours of this morning, the military of the forestry carabinieri group of Reggio Calabria have five precautionary measures were implemented, Of which one of house arrest and four of obligation to report to the judicial police, issued by the preliminary investigations judge of the Reggio Calabria court against an equal number of individuals of Italian and Romanian nationality.

Investigative activity, carried out under the direction of the public prosecutor's office at the court of Reggio Calabria – district anti-mafia directorate, made it possible to acquire a serious circumstantial framework, shared by the investigating judge in the aforementioned restrictive order. The crimes contested are those of criminal association aimed at the illicit management of waste, to the their illicit combustion, and to organized illicit trafficking of waste. The vehicles were also subjected to seizure aimed at confiscation (trucks) used by members for waste handling.

The investigation is the result of a detailed and complex investigative activity initiated by the Carabinieri Forestry Unit of Reggio Calabria through which it was brought to light, exalting its criminal conduct, the existence of a stable criminal association dedicated to the illicit management of waste.

Today's result came as a result of a roadside inspection of a vehicle loaded with special waste e without the required environmental authorizations. The investigative action conducted with traditional methods and supported by technical activity led to the ascertainment of several connected criminal conducts.

In particular, the subjects affected by the measure illegally disposed of it on agricultural land located on the outskirts of the city, belonging to unaware subjects, high quantities of waste of various types (wood, ferrous, construction, plastic, sheaths and, even more seriously, Eternit sheets).

Subjects, by transportation, they took the waste to the illegally created landfill and then proceeded to burn it, so setting up an organized and efficient system, di alarming severity, suitable for endangering the health of an indeterminate number of people, as well as creating serious harm and disfigurement of environmental matrices.

The activity is in the preliminary investigation phase awaiting assessments from the judicial authorities.
