Reggio Calabria, Rosarno: the Carabinieri seize a vast area of ​​state maritime property because it is subject to illicit waste disposal

Reggio Calabria, cdespite the action to prevent and combat many criminal phenomena, to protect the environment for the Army in the area of ​​the Gioia Tauro plain - including the illicit dumping of waste - thanks also to the support of the Forestry Carabinieri and specialized departments .

In this context, in Gioia Tauro, in recent days, the soldiers of the local station have carried out preventive seizures of various municipal areas, including some sites in the vicinity of via Ciambra and via Asmara, where various piles of waste, including bulky and special.

In the same context, in Rosarno, the Carabinieri identified a vast area of ​​6.700 meters2, near the mouth of the Mesima river, in Contrada Carosello, used as a real open-air waste landfill. The operators, together with personnel from the Port Authority of Gioia Tauro, subjected the affected area to preventive seizure, due to environmental violations. 

Among the piles of waste found by the military, there are bulky, special items, used tyres, building waste and asbestos sheets, which will be specifically analyzed by the relevant bodies in order to be subjected to the subsequent procedure for the disposal of harmful substances. 

The operation implemented by the military was aimed at preventing further disfigurement of the coastal area owned by the Maritime State Property and also preventing pollution of the neighboring waterway.
