Reggio Calabria, a blow to thefts in the city. The Carabinieri break up a gang of car and apartment thieves. 6 arrests

Major operation by the Carabinieri: six people were arrested on charges of aggravated car theft and housebreaking, as part of an investigation that revealed a well-structured criminal organization operating in the city. The precautionary custody order, issued by the GIP of Reggio Calabria at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Reggio Calabria directed by Dr. Giuseppe Lombardo, affected individuals already known to the police, with an age between 18 and 54 years.

The investigations revealed a ring of repeated predatory crimes, planned down to the smallest detail. The gang acted with extreme professionalism: to avoid checks, they used "trailblazer" vehicles to monitor the presence of law enforcement, making it difficult for patrols to intervene.

Car thefts mainly occurred in the city centre and the stolen cars were then used to ask for a ransom from the owners using the “return horse” technique, or dismantled piece by piece in clandestine workshops, ready for the black market for spare parts.

But they didn't stop at cars: The gang carried out numerous burglaries in apartments, stealing cash, jewellery, precious stones, luxury watches and various weaponsThe recovered weapons were found hidden in public housing blocks in Arghillà, an area often used as a safe hiding place for stolen goods.
The Carabinieri blitz stopped an escalation of crimes that was spreading fear among residents. All those arrested, all of whom had specific criminal records for property crimes, were transferred to prison.
