Reggio Calabria. 54-year-old arrested for years of abuse and stalking: he threatened his wife with dissolving her in acid.

In recent days, the Carabinieri of the Gallina Station arrested a 54-year-old from Reggio Calabria, executing an Order of Execution for Imprisonment issued by the Judicial Authority, thus putting an end to a dramatic family affair marked by years of abuse and violence.

The investigations, launched in 2021, had already revealed a disturbing picture of mistreatment, characterized by verbal violence, death threats and constant insults, who had forced the wife and children, including a minor, living in a perpetual state of terror.

The story had a decisive turning point in August 2023, when the wife, exasperated and worried for her own safety and that of her children, found the courage to report her husband to the authorities. This complaint allowed the Carabinieri to reconstruct a sequence of episodes of unprecedented gravity, including threats to dissolve the woman in acid, which demonstrate a worrying continuity of aggressive and abusive behaviour. Following the complaint, the woman decided to leave the family home, seeking refuge with relatives and frequently changing place of stay to escape the fury of the man, who, not accepting the separation, intensified his violent conduct, turning into a real stalker.

In a particularly alarming episode, the man showed up armed with a knife at the home of his wife's parents, in a last-ditch attempt to track her down, prompting an immediate reaction from the Carabinieri, who applied the "Red Code" to guarantee maximum protection for the victim and her children. Already in the same month of August, the man had been subjected to house arrest with an absolute ban on contacting family, but the evolution of the criminal proceedings made the further measure of imprisonment necessary.

The attention of the Carabinieri remains high towards people in conditions of particular vulnerability and victims of gender violence.
