Ragusa, pretends to be a lawyer reporting that his son had an accident: 2 elderly people defrauded

The Carabinieri of the Province of Ragusa are on the trail of an alleged scammer who yesterday defrauded an eighty-five year old and a seventy five year old, from Santa Croce Camerina and Scicli respectively, having cash and gold jewelery delivered.

According to what has been reconstructed, the man, who is currently being identified, used the same modus operandi in both scams: he would have pretended to be a lawyer by contacting the victim by telephone and reporting a road accident caused by the old woman's son, for which the old woman would have had to pay compensation for the insurance coverage. Having then obtained the trust of the victim and the availability of cash or valuables to settle the alleged expenses, the man then showed up at the house to collect the promised amount.

It is recommended in similar situations to remain calm, be wary of this type of call and contact 112 immediately.
