“After us” project, two new apartments will accommodate people with disabilities in Grosseto.

Arriving 420 thousand euros of Pnrr funds for the restructuring and management (for a period of three years) of two apartments owned by the municipal administration and currently managed by the EPG, which the Municipality of Grosseto puts available to 12 young people with serious disabilities. The project "After us", presented by Coeso Sds, and the consequent assignment of the two public residential buildings represent a concrete response from the municipal administration to people with mental, intellectual, relational and multi-disability disabilities, with respect to a fundamental theme such as that of "after of us”, which has always been a source of anxiety for families with disabled children. The two apartments, already identified in the Grosseto municipal territory and part of the Administration's building heritage, will be completely renovated by the end of 2026. The same, of approximately 96 and 88 square meters respectively, will each be composed of 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms and will accommodate 6 children each, assisted by a micro team and qualified operators.

“An ambitious project – comment the first citizen Antonfrancesco Vivarelli Colonna andsocial councilor Sara Minozzi – which aims to guarantee maximum autonomy and independence to people with disabilities, allowing them to continue living, when their parents can no longer take care of them, in contexts as similar as possible to the family home. It will be a challenge for us to be able to carry out this project. The most challenging part will be the management and coexistence of 6 kids with completely different disabilities and needs within a single space. However, we are proud to be able to give a concrete response to a widespread problem."

Satisfied too Tania Barbi, director of Coeso Società della Salute: “The 'After us' project must be built in advance to be able to guarantee the person with disabilities a more independent life when the family network is no longer present; it is therefore necessary to create paths before the need arises. This project, in addition to guaranteeing the possibility of experimenting with independent living for 12 people, has allowed the Health Society to temporarily expand its staff, hiring a professional educator and a social worker who will create a micro team, which will work alongside the 'Zonal multidisciplinary evaluation unit (Uvmd), to create a personalized project based on the needs of the person being assisted".

Elisabetta Mori, head of the social welfare and social health services functional unit del Coeso SdS added: "With this financing, which envisages three lines of action, we can create the micro team of professionals dedicated to the project, support the costs for the renovation and furnishing of the two apartments, purchase a series of equipment instrumental, but also to finance monthly work grants with which the people involved will be able to activate their work paths". The round of speeches concluded with president of Epg Mario Pellegrini who underlined: “An initiative that demonstrates the attention of the mayor and the entire council to the most vulnerable people. As Epg we are proud to have collaborated in the success of the project, through the work carried out by our offices in the individualisation of the apartments, which will give these children a future".
