As part of the improvement of services throughout the Etna capital, also aimed at prevention and repression of drug-related crimes, which constitute a source of income for organised crime, the Carabinieri of the Catania Investigative Unit have dealt another heavy blow to the phenomenon of drug dealing, with the arrest for "possession for the purpose of drug trafficking"of un 57enne, from Calabria but resident in Catania for several years, with a criminal record.
The investigation was started following a careful work of gathering investigative information, which allowed the military of the Unit to discover how the subject, despite being under house arrest at his home in the Picanello district to serve a sentence, was still carrying out a profitable drug dealing business.

Once the circumstantial evidence was outlined, the investigators developed an action plan that was meticulously detailed. They then prepared a remote observation service in discreet mode, blending in with the neighborhood's residents, to identify the ideal moment to act.
The ideal moment to launch the blitz has arrived after hours of strategic waiting, when investigators recorded an unusual and suspicious coming and going of people from the apartment. This anomalous movement of people gave confirmation to start the operation, planned in every detail.
In fact, a team of Carabinieri quickly positioned themselves outside the building to block any attempt by the criminal to escape, while another acted directly, showing up at the door of the 57-year-old's apartment. under the guise of a routine check-up.
The man, unaware of the trap, opened the door without suspicion, allowing the soldiers to enter. Once inside, however, a raid was immediately started thorough search of the premises. During the operations, the Carabinieri carefully inspected every room of the apartment and, in the bedroom, they identified a black duffel bag placed on a trunk, inside which they found a lot of things 1.800 gr. of marijuana, divided into several cellophane bags, ready for distribution to buyers, as well as a pack of 50 cartridges for pistol cal.7.65.
Continuing the searches, the soldiers also examined the kitchen where, inside the oven, they found a handwritten sheet on which names and related amounts were noted, presumably linked to drug dealing activities.
The man was therefore arrested and placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority, which validated the provision and ordered the precautionary measure of arrest, while both the drugs were seized.
