Nuoro, "wandering" animals on the road: maximum attention from the police throughout the province of Nuoro
Nuoro, the phenomenon of "wandering" animals on the road, often the cause of road accidents which, in addition to creating traffic disruptions, are a source of serious risk to people's safety, has long affected numerous roads in the Province of Nuoro, especially those adjacent to the areas affected by grazing of cattle, horses, pigs and sheep.
The number of road accidents caused by animals present on the roadway - detected by the Carabinieri alone - in the provincial territory is worrying: in 2020 there were 146 road accidents and 59 since the beginning of the current year.
In this regard, at the moment a total of 18 individuals have been identified, owners of the animals, who have been charged with criminal violations relating to the lack of or insufficient care and will be required to pay compensation for the damage.
It should also be considered that in addition to road accidents caused by farm animals, there are also numerous accidents caused by wild ones, in particular from wild boars, which account for approximately 35% of the overall total, which is why it is advisable to always maintain high attention, especially in the evening/night hours, and to modulate the speed based on the road section travelled.
The problem has long been brought to the attention of the Carabinieri who, during the Institute's normal service, are constantly committed to preventing and combating the phenomenon, which is particularly present in some municipalities in the Ogliastra area and in the upper Nuoro area.
