Niscemi (CL), an illegal kennel discovered: 12 mistreated and malnourished animals.

After the recent checks carried out at Niscemi, the State Police carried out a targeted counteraction to the prevention and repression of clandestine horse racing and dog fighting. The nucleus of the "Games and Betting Police" of the Flying Squad, in fact, monitored the various criminal phenomena in the province of Caltanissetta.

Thanks to the information acquired by the policemen of the Niscemi Police Station, various checks were carried out with the help of the veterinarians from the ASP of Caltanissetta. The checks made it possible to identify illegal equine breeding stables and verify very serious conditions of mistreatment of twelve dogs. Three mixed breeds, two large and one small, were tied to a chain and could not travel more than a few metres; nine dogs, probably bred for hunting, were locked in an illegal box.

The latter were small animals malnourished (technique used during the hunting period to increase performance when searching for prey), in hypothermia and forced to live in very narrow cages, among feces, in an illegal building without basic hygienic conditions and in an almost total absence of light.

At first, the person believed to be the owner of the premises, who was then investigated for mistreatment of animals, denied any responsibility, but the officers' investigations made it possible to find a set of keys inside his vehicle that opens an iron door, single access to the structure. At that point the man tried to justify his behavior.

The dogs were freed by the police, fed and transferred to the Niscemi police station by a company specialized in animal recovery. Veterinarians will take care of the animals, trying to avoid permanent consequences for their health.
