Molinella: “your son is sick. Money is needed for treatment”, the alleged perpetrators of an aggravated fraud were arrested by the Carabinieri.

The Carabinieri of the Molinella Company have arrested the alleged perpetrators of an aggravated fraud committed against a 72-year-old Italian woman.

The military of the Nucleo Radiomobile were informed of the suspicious presence of a black Fiat Panda that was passing through the area. At the sight of the Carabinieri who were arriving, the driver of the small car, instead of stopping and showing his documents, accelerated, violating the road signs.

The chase ended on Via Cesare Battisti, where the driver was involved in a minor traffic accident with another vehicle driven by an Italian woman in her sixties.

Reached by the Carabinieri who prevented him from continuing his escape on foot, the driver of the Fiat Panda, which turned out to be a rental, was identified as a 54-year-old Italian, from Campania, unemployed and with a criminal record.

When searched, the man was found in possession of 5.000 euros in cash.

Convinced that the 54-year-old was involved in an illicit activity with another person, the Carabinieri in fact identified, not far from the road accident, the accomplice, a 41-year-old Italian also from Campania on a business trip, who was having 2.000 euros in cash and a jewelry box delivered to him by a lady, later identified as the 72-year-old, who, when questioned by the Carabinieri, reported that she had received a phone call from a person who had informed her of an unexpected health problem that had happened to her son and to help him she would have to hand over some money to some intermediaries who would have shown up at the door.

By order of the Public Prosecutor on duty at the Bologna Public Prosecutor's Office, the alleged perpetrators arrested by the Carabinieri were taken to a holding cell.
