Modica: carabinieri and Casa Don Puglisi to grow in legality.

A very beautiful relationship is being consolidated between the Carabinieri Company of Modica and the Casa Don Puglisi, which welcomes women and children in moments of serious difficulty, for paths to a fresh start in life. A social friendship, as Pope Francis would define it, that is, a relationship in which esteem and cordiality increase the quality of the social fabric.

So it was nice to meet again last October 21st in a choral moment, presided over by the bishop of Noto Monsignor Salvatore Rumeo and with the participation of the various institutional representatives and many people, for the 30th anniversary of the martyrdom of Don Pino Puglisi. Remembering how his evangelical commitment to solidarity and legality, which saved the children helped in the Padre Nostro Center from the mafia, led him to give his life freely and consciously, leaving the example of "a love that goes to the end" that it is renewed in the House with its commitment to educational care, as well as in the commitment of the police to safeguard safety and attention to the common good.

In this context, other equally significant events took place between November and the current month when - as often happens to adolescents as they grow up - the House was able to count on the educational capacity of the Carabinieri. The purpose of the meetings, which aroused great enthusiasm and participation in the children of the House, was to educate them in the exercise of democracy, within the limits and respect for inviolable rights, mandatory duties and shared common rules, as members of civil society, while at the same time promoting young people's awareness of the founding values and inspiring principles of the Italian Constitution for the exercise of active citizenship at all levels of the social system. In particular, the topics of education on legality, bullying and cyberbullying, the "widespread interests" of the community, road safety, drugs, alcohol, the correct use of the internet and social media, as well as many practical examples of daily life.

«We sincerely thank Major Francesco Zangla and the entire Carabinieri – writes the director of the Don Puglisi House, Maurilio Assenza – for the wisdom of an intervention that helped our adolescents to grasp the limit between transgression and illegality, with the consequences that exceeding this limit entails, enhancing the elements of awareness developed by the children with dialogue aimed at underlining the positive. To educate, as the great witnesses teach us (from Don Bosco to Don Puglisi), first of all with the heart. As Don Pino said, "God always loves through someone!": and so, then, the Constitution and the Gospel meet in interventions that are so beautiful, competent and affable at the same time, and in alliances that think of the good of the new generations." Once again the institutional mission has been achieved which is not only to develop a culture of legality in children, but above all to allow them to begin to become familiar with the institutions and, specifically, with the delicate role of social worker performed in everyday life by the "Carabiniere".
