In the early afternoon of Thursday the soldiers of the Operational and Radiomobile Unit of the Carabinieri Company of Modica, engaged in a service to combat the consumption and dealing of narcotic substances, arrested three subjects from Modica: a 32-year-old single, unemployed man, a 39-year-old married man , businessman and a 48-year-old single man and businessman. The soldiers of the Carabinieri, following various reports from some residents, undertook in-depth investigation activities which, through observations and shadowing, made it possible to ascertain the existence of a flourishing drug dealing activity within a well-known laundry located in Modica Sorda.

The three men, in fact, one of whom is the manager of the commercial activity, taking advantage of the comings and goings of the customers, had started a real alternative business of an illicit nature by retailing various types of drugs inside the premises in question. . The local search, conducted with the support of the Carabinieri dog unit of Nicolosi (CT) and their four-legged colleague Ivan, allowed the discovery, well hidden among freshly washed duvets and bottles of detergent, 9 blocks of hashish weighing 100 grams, 9 cylinders of same substance of 50 grams each for a total of almost 2 kilos, approximately 100 grams of cocaine, over six thousand euros in cash, proceeds from the illicit activity, and a 6.35 caliber pistol with 46 cartridges of the same caliber, as well as weighing material, cutting and packaging of narcotic substances, all subjected to seizure.

A very original idea by the three men, both because the presence of the buyers of the psychotropic substances, among the regular customers of the laundry, would not have aroused suspicion, and because the intense smell of additives and chemical components would have deceived the sense of smell of the dogs used in any anti-drug services. Arrested and placed under house arrest, following the validation hearing, the same precautionary measure was applied to the three at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority.
