Misterbianco: fire in a house, the Carabinieri carry away an elderly disabled woman on their shoulders.

The activity of the Carabinieri is not limited to the prevention and repression of crimes, but is also support and closeness to the population, especially in emergency situations, where speed and courage are essential to protect and, in extreme cases, save human lives and property.
One of these episodes occurred when a woman in a panic reached the headquarters of the Misterbianco Police Station and, screaming, asked for help from three Carabinieri who were right in front of the barracks, about to begin a patrol service.

The woman, visibly shaken, told the crew that in an apartment located on the first floor of a building on Via Galimberti, right in front of her home, there was a fire with tongues of flame coming out of the veranda.
Having immediately understood the seriousness of the situation, the patrol rushed immediately to the site of the fire, not far from the barracks, requesting, in the meantime, the intervention of the Fire Brigade.

Having reached, in a matter of seconds, the street indicated by the woman, they quickly cordoned off the area, to safeguard the safety of passers-by and residents and to prevent access to people and onlookers.
The scene was that of a spreading fire, with thick smoke rapidly engulfing the stairwell and invading the upper floors.

The military personnel of the Tenenza immediately helped the residents of the building to get out, securing them and managing the evacuation of the building.
During the initial stages of the operation, however, the crew learned from the owner of the burning apartment, a 51-year-old woman who suffered minor burns on her arms while trying to put out the flames, that there were two LPG cylinders inside her veranda.
Aware of the imminent danger of a possible explosion of the cylinders now too close to the flames, the Carabinieri decided to enter the building to reach the veranda with the aim of removing them.
As they climbed the first flight of stairs in the building, however, the patrol heard cries for help coming from another apartment on the third floor. At that point they felt it was more urgent to reach the person who was certainly in difficulty, a decision also supported by the imminent arrival of the Fire Department.

The requests for help were those of an elderly disabled woman, bedridden and dependent on an oxygen tank, who could not move and therefore leave the apartment independently.
Without hesitation, the soldiers of the Tenenza reached the landing where the lady was standing but unable to walk independently. After reassuring her, they then carried her on their shoulders, together with the medical support, to the outside of the building, passing through the first floor, where the gas cylinders were still present, engulfed in flames.

The dangerous proximity to these containers, which only by a miracle did not explode, made the rescue even more risky and urgent.
Now safe, the elderly lady was entrusted to the care of the 118 paramedics who also arrived on site to assist any injured people.

Fortunately, the patient, thanks to the intervention of the Carabinieri, did not suffer any physical consequences but only a lot of fear. In the meantime, thanks to the precious activity of the Fire Brigade, the fire was contained and extinguished while the cylinders were secured, avoiding further damage to the structure and ensuring the safety of the inhabitants.
