Mirabella Imbaccari: Carabinieri operation in the countryside, drugs and firearms seized

The constant investigative information activity of the Carabinieri throughout the province of Catania, according to the indications of the Provincial Command, continues to provide excellent results to the military, with particular reference to the fight against drug trafficking and possession of weapons.

In this context, the important discovery was made in the Mirabella countryside, almost on the border with the municipality of San Michele di Ganzeria (CT).

Thanks to the acquisition of relevant information, appropriately examined within a broader operational framework, the military are managed to locate an agricultural area which, in all likelihood, the traffickers would have used for hide their “merchandise” sheltered from prying eyes.

However, this attempt did not have the desired effect: the military personnel of the Arma, in fact, having identified the Tempio district as the probable hiding place of the criminals, searched the territory inch by inch.

The confirmation of the Carabinieri's investigative hypotheses came around 19pm, when, right under a narrow passage of an overpass, they discovered a trolley and a large plastic bag, anchored to the cement with a rope to protect them from wild animals. Inside the bag they found a plastic container containing 350 grams of marijuana.

Inside the trolley, the Carabinieri then found 9 vacuum-packed cellophane bags, also containing marijuana, for a total of approximately 2 kilograms of narcotic substance. Furthermore, they found a precision balance and, especially, a perfectly functional and lethal .38 caliber revolver with no make or serial number.

What was found was, of course, seized and the weapon sent to the RIS laboratory in Messina for the tests necessary to verify its possible previous use.

With this seizure, both the weapon and the drugs have been removed from the criminals' possession and from the illegal market, thus helping to reduce risks to public safety.
