The safety and cleaning of the area has begun: 14 families in temporary public housing

Milano, the Roma camp in Via Bonfadini closed.

Has been the authorized Roma camp in via Bonfadini closed, opened in 1985. The closure follows a long journey started byMunicipal administration last April in agreement and collaboration with the Prefecture, in the wake of the strategy of overcoming authorized camps carried out for several years.

Starting yesterday, a new emergency begins for the area regeneration process for the benefit of the city: it will be secured and then given to SogeMi for the development and implementation of the dei project new wholesale markets of Milano and the entrance leads south.

Over the years, the authorized camp had progressively degraded, several times over Local Police had to intervene after a traffic of stolen vehicles had been identified, often dismantled and resold in pieces or burned and abandoned in the adjacent streets.

The process for the closure was shared within the provincial Committee for public order and safety, coordinated by the Prefecture. The procedure started with the verification of presences in the area: the monitoring, carried out in recent months by the Social services and the Local Police, had highlighted the presence of 30 families of Italian nationality, or approximately 90 people present, of which over 30 minors.

In recent weeks, about half of the people still present in the camp had been notified an order ordering them to leave the area. Vulnerable situations assessed by social services, 15 families accepted the offer of alternative temporary housing solutions in SAT accommodation, in accordance with the legislation in force, proposals in good time for the resumption of the 2024/2025 school year, in order not to compromise the continuity of attendance for minors.

The field in via Bonfadini is the fourth of the seven authorized and historically present in Milano to have been closed, in implementation of the guidelines approved in November 2012. In the meantime, around twenty unauthorized but present consolidated camps have also been closed, including the settlement near the Bacula flyover (2012), via Gatto-Cavriana (2012), via Airaghi (2013), via Brunetti-Montefeltro (2013), via Rubattino (2013), via Selvanesco (2013), via San Dionigi-Porto di Mare (2014), via Martirano 39 (2015), via Bonfadini -Zama (2021), piazza D'Armi (2022), via Vaiano Valle (2022).

The path is based on three principles: solutions for integrating welfare and housing according to the rules in force, combating illegality and degradation, redevelopment of the territory. It's a strategy that intends to encourage the integration of people into the city's housing fabric and not keep them in camps that are places of degradation for these families and often of serious health, safety and environmental problems.
