Macerata: They try to steal a small speaker and then stab the owner, two 25-year-olds arrested

The military personnel of the Operational Nucleus of the Carabinieri Company of Macerata, led by Captain Renato Ventrone, in execution of the precautionary measure of house arrest issued by the GIP of the Court of Macerata, they arrested two Gambian citizens, aged 24 and 25 respectively, unemployed, both living in the capital, responsible for attempted murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated personal injury and illegal possession of weapons or objects capable of causing harm, all crimes committed in conjunction with each other.

The investigations started from the events that occurred on 28 August 2024, when a patrol of the Mobile Radio Unit intervened at the Diaz Gardens, where a fight had been reported. The military on site immediately identified 3 people, the two Gambians and a Tunisian citizen. In the meantime, it was learned of the presence of a fourth subject, a 26 year old Algerian citizen, who had been transported to the Emergency Room in Macerata, as he had suffered serious personal injuries following a stabbing, and was hospitalized with a reserved prognosis.

Following intensive investigations, the military of the Operational Unit managed to shed light on the incident, establishing the responsibilities of the two Gambians, who have been reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Macerata for the crimes mentioned above. From the reconstruction of the facts it emerged that the Algerian man who was stabbed on the evening of the incident was in the Diaz Gardens with a friend of his, when they were called by the screams of another friend of theirs. The two rushed to the aid of the latter, because he had been attacked by the two Gambians under investigation, in an attempt to steal a small speaker from him.

During the fight, a knife was produced, held by one of the two Gambians, with which the Algerian was seriously stabbed in the back. Continuing their violent action, the knife passed from the hand of the second Gambian, who, finding himself in front of the victim, stabbed him with a second blow to the face and mouth, causing permanent injuries.

The three attacked managed to escape from the gardens, while one of the Gambians continued to threaten them, but the Algerian, due to the serious injuries he had sustained, collapsed to the ground after a few hundred meters and was rescued by 118.The complex and prolonged investigation activity conducted by the Operational Unit of the Macerata Company, under the direction of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Macerata, has allowed us to crystallise the conduct of the two defendants in relation to the crimes contested, highlighting their markedly violent personality.

The investigative findings fully shared by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Macerata have allowed the issuing of the aforementioned precautionary measures. The suspects were then taken to their homes and placed under house arrest with the application of an electronic bracelet, at the disposal of the Judiciary.
