Lecco: traffic “in chaos”, life-saving drugs delivered on time thanks to the State Police

On the morning of October 11, the personnel of the Lecco State Police – Flying Squad intervened near the Municipality of Abbadia Lariana for a report received in the Operations Room, on the emergency line NUE112, of a van carrying life-saving drugs, which had to be delivered urgently, by 12.00, to the “A. Manzoni” hospital in Lecco, in the nuclear medicine department.

The traffic conditions on that day, as is known, were critical as it was necessary to close the SS36 – Galleria San Martino for flooding.

At that moment all the patrols of the Lecco Highway Police on duty, busy managing the traffic emergency, were far from the location of the request.

The local Operations Room therefore sent a patrol of the Flying Squad near the “Orsa Maggiore” in Lecco, as it was considered the most suitable and congenial position to “hook up” the “green” van, as described by the applicant.

The patrol policemen managed to intercept the aforementioned van at the height of the petrol station located on Lungolario Piave.

Once hooked up the vehicle the agents found heavy traffic, with the presence of numerous heavy vehicles, to the point that not even the use of light and acoustic devices allowed for easy transit.

However, with appropriate "manual signals" and skillful maneuvers by the driver, the Volante managed to escort the van and to reach the Manzoni hospital in just seven minutes, therefore in good time for the delivery of life-saving medicines to the ward, for the performance of the scheduled surgical intervention.
