La Spezia: the Ministry has recognized the status of state aircraft for the drones in service with the Local Police.

An important recognition has arrived in recent days for the equipment of the La Spezia Local Police. In fact, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, Department for Transport and Navigation, with its own Decree he equated the UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) drones used by the La Spezia agents to “state aircraft”.

“This milestone demonstrates once again that our city is at the forefront in adopting the most advanced technologies for public safety with significant investments in video surveillance. – declares the Councillor for Security Giulio Guerri – With the recognition as State Aircraft, the UAS drones of our Local Police will continue to be used with the aim of ensuring an increasingly safe and protected future for all citizens in the context of an integrated security strategy.”

The request had been presented last May by Commander Bertoneri who acknowledged the Ministry, which in April 2022, had been established a working group dedicated to the use of remotely piloted devices called “Drone Nucleus”.

The request also highlighted how the local police had foreseen the possibility of provide them free of charge to other State Police Forces that do not have them, through agreements and protocols established for this purpose, the assistance and support of pilots and aircraft, as well as the possibility of actively collaborating with other institutional bodies on special high definition territorial photo mapping projects, in order to provide an exceptional public service value through the use of its aircraft. Furthermore, a formal agreement was reached with the Regional Directorate of Fire Brigades, SAPR unit, to carry out joint training sessions in order to establish a virtuous relationship of collaboration between the Agencies.

It is crucial for the Ministry that the UAS in question are used by the La Spezia Local Police to carry out functions, such as the activity aimed at ascertaining and repressing criminal offences, urban public safety activities, supervision of the state of maintenance and conservation of public or public interest real estate (roads, buildings, public works etc.) and private, especially in the event of a threat to public safety or danger of collapse, also in collaboration with other Sectors of the Municipality or external Bodies, search and rescue operations during public disasters, or rescue interventions towards private citizens missing in disadvantaged or difficult to reach areas, actions to prevent, combat and repress environmental crimes, rescue activities in public and private accidents as well as the search for missing persons, monitoring of traffic and critical road junctions, activities to prevent and combat drug-related crimes, for the identification and monitoring of drug dealing locations and activities, especially in the vicinity of sensitive places such as schools, public parks and gardens, urban areas, and actions to prevent and combat urban decay, also with a view to preventing and repressing acts of deviance and urban crime.

With the Decree, therefore, the Ministry, positively evaluated the request, ensuring an increasingly broader scope of intervention and activity, with consequent benefits in terms of efficiency and effectiveness of interventions, both for scheduled and urgent ones.
