Isernia, online sale of a used engine, buyer scammed. The Postal Police reports a 51-year-old
The police officers of the Cyber Security Operations Section of Isernia have identified and reported a 51-year-old of Campanian origins, believed to be responsible for ongoing e-commerce fraud. The investigation was triggered by a complaint filed by a 60-year-old from the province of Pentra who purchased a used engine for his car, paying €1.600 via instant bank transfer.
Thanks to the tracking of financial flows, the agents identified the 51-year-old from Campania, the real owner of the account into which the proceeds of the scam were paid. Furthermore, during the search delegated by the Campobasso Public Prosecutor's Office at the scammer's home, the police found and seized the credit card associated with the account that was the beneficiary of the proceeds of the scam and the mobile phone used to manage the account app. From the list of movements it emerged that, in addition to the scam related to the false advertisement for the sale of the engine, other amounts related to similar scams also flowed into the same report.
Here are the Postal Police's tips for safe purchases:
- Use certified or official platforms and sites.
- Make sure the site has the same references as a real store.
- Check, even through search engines, the existence of reports concerning the seller and read the comments and feedback of other buyers.
- On smartphones or tablets, use the official apps of the online stores.
- For payment, we prefer to use rechargeable credit cards.
- Pay attention to the ads: a well-structured ad is more reliable.
- Be wary of those who ask to be contacted outside the classifieds platform, for example by offering a significant discount, or those who send ambiguous emails, but also those who are in too much of a hurry to close the deal.
