Guardia di Finanza intervention near Serafini Island: rescued a man in difficulty on the Po River
The 14 May 2025, the naval unit BSO 501, part of the Naval Units Squad of the Guardia di Finanza of Cremona, during a service cruise, carried out a rescue operation on the waters of the River Po, near Serafini Island.
In particular, the operation was carried out on a pleasure craft with a person on board and a broken engine, which was adrift, at the mercy of the current, with a risk to the safety of navigation and to the safety of the man in difficulty. After verifying that the occupant was in good health, the vessel was towed and taken to its mooring.
The naval component of the Guardia di Finanza present on the Po River constitutes a fundamental garrison of the internal waters to protect the legal economy and to combat illicit activities, through the maintenance of operations every day of the year. The role of river surveillance is also carried out in a preventive manner, ensuring a constant presence and adequate control activity.
In carrying out their institutional duties, the Corps personnel are often involved in search and rescue operations on the lakes and rivers of Lombardy and in other activities to safeguard human life during calamities and disasters, in support of the national Civil Protection system.
