In Oristano the funeral of Chiara Carta, the 13 year old killed by her mother.
«Why Chiara? Why this death was so atrocious?”. The questions of the bishop of Oristano, Roberto Carboni, in the funeral homily, resound in the church of San Pietro Apostolo, in the hamlet of Sili. A large crowd gathers to say their last goodbyes to Chiara Carta, the 13 year old killed with 30 stab wounds by her mother last Saturday.
«This death – clarified the bishop – questions us as a community and it is an opportunity to grow a sense of solidarity that gives hope to everyone».
Chiara's teachers wrote a letter for her: "We are pervaded by a sense of atrocious disturbance that takes our breath away. You had a natural and innate kindness you cared about others and kept your deep silent pain to yourself. We won't see you grow up Chiara but you will continue to live and shine in our memories. Watch over your dad, never leave him alone».
Next to the white coffin, covered with a carpet of roses, his father Piero destroyed by grief, schoolmates and the mayor of Oristano Massimiliano Sanna, which decreed the city's mourning. When the coffin came out into the churchyard he was greeted with long applause and the sky rose white balloons.
Mother, Monica Vinci, 52 years old, remains guarded in the hospital in Oristano, awaiting transfer to prison on charges of aggravated voluntary manslaughter.
