As part of the activities to combat crimes, including predatory crimes such as thefts, robberies, receiving stolen goods, the Carabinieri of the Radiomobile Nucleus of the Giarre Company have reported three people: a 20 year old and a 27 year old of Piedimonte Etneo (CT) and an 44 year old of Riposto (CT), all considered responsible for the crime of stolen.

The activity was started following the Reporting a car theft, which prompted the Radiomobile patrol to undertake Vehicle searches immediately. The operators focused their attention on some areas of Giarre already known as zones where, sometimes, criminals abandoned stolen cars, therefore proceeding to a thorough check of the parked cars.

In the meantime, the Operations Centre received information from the company responsible for managing the Satellite GPS, installed on the Lancia Y car, the search directions, complete with the exact coordinates of the vehicle. This information corresponded exactly to the position of the Carabinieri patrol, already engaged in searches in the area.

Despite everything, the vehicle was not immediately traceable among the numerous cars parked in the area. The Carabinieri, however, aware that stolen vehicles are sometimes hidden, even inside empty garages, decided not to stop and to inspect, therefore, the boxes located in the basement of a nearby building.

During the inspection, the soldiers noticed a partially ajar shutter. Inside the garage, right from the start, it was the presence of some people was detected. Proceeding with caution, the Carabinieri opened the shutter safely, discovering three individuals busy tinkering with the electronics of the stolen car, the very one reported as the object of the theft.

The three would never have expected such an unpleasant surprise: the Carabinieri have immediately blocked, asking for explanations on the origin of the Lancia Y and the reason for their presence in the garage. After some imaginative justifications, the 27-year-old, found inside the passenger compartment with a electronic device for coding keys and ignition control unit, admitted that the car was stolen and that the theft had been committed Lingfield (CT).

Following the searches, the military have found and seized in addition to modified keys and screwdrivers of various types, additional materials used for illegal activities, including a programmer for control units and coded keys, complete with OBD cable for connection to cars, and a Wi-Fi pen. These devices, used by criminals, They allow you to tamper with the electronic control units of cars, reprogramming the ignition keys to create unauthorized duplicates. In this way, the vehicles can be started and stolen bypassing the original security systems.

Inside the garage the investigators also found two production plates from the Czech Republic, for which the expected investigations have been started to identify their ownership.

Further immediate checks by the Carabinieri allowed them to ascertain that the stolen car had been rented by a tourist, from whom it was stolen while he was making a withdrawal at an ATM in the centre of Linguaglossa.
