Genoa, he flees after stealing a phone and lashes out at the officers once stopped: 31-year-old arrested. 

On May 16, the Operational Department of the Genoa Principe Railway Police proceeded with thearrest of a 31-year-old who, after having snatched a mobile phone from the owner's hands, was stopped while trying to escape by train and resisted a public official.

Early afternoon on Friday the police car from the Cornigliano police station, in transit in Sampierdarena, called by passers-by, started chasing a man who had just stolen a lady's smartphone. Seemingly hunted, the subject entered the nearby train station and hastily boarded a passing train, headed towards the city center, managing to escape.

The officers who intervened immediately issued the description of the fleeing person. The Polfer operators, together with the army personnel employed in the surveillance of the Piazza Principe railway station, went to the platform where the regional 12397 arriving from the west of the city was arriving, without identifying the subject among the people getting off the train.

The police then stopped the train and continued the search on board the convoy and identified the alleged perpetrator on the first carriage. Once stopped, the 31-year-old attempted once again to escape control, pushing and hitting the operator who had intercepted him who still managed to hold him back until his colleagues arrived and definitively blocked him.

At the time of his arrest, the man, without documents, was in possession of not only the recently stolen cell phone, but also a second device that had been the subject of a previous crime. The subject was therefore arrested for resisting a public official and reported for theft and receiving stolen goods.

After having ascertained his exact identity following a photo identification at the local Scientific Police office, he was taken to the holding cells of the Genoa Police Headquarters.

On Friday, at the end of the immediate proceedings, the Judge of the local Court validated the arrest and applied the precautionary measure of custody in prison.
