Genoa, large anti-drug operation by the State Police

The State Police of Genoa, coordinated by the DDAA of the local Public Prosecutor's Office, performed, in the early hours of the morning, a precautionary custody order in prison, issued by the GIP of the Court of Genoa, against 16 people held responsible, to varying degrees, for crimes relating to trafficking, including international, and dealing in narcotics such as cocaine, hashish and marijuana, robbery, receiving stolen goods and violation of the laws on weapons.

The investigative activity, started by the Anti-Drug Section of the Flying Squad of the Ligurian capital, has allowed to reconstruct, against six of the people investigated, a criminal association aimed at drug trafficking, with ramifications between Piedmont and Spain, with the external assistance of one of the people investigated.

Over a hundred officers were involved in the operation, with the collaboration of the Mobile Squads of Turin, Bergamo, Monza, Lodi, La Spezia, Salerno, Bari and Lecce and with the help of anti-drug dog units. As part of the same measure, arrests are also underway in Spain for three individuals subject to a European Arrest Warrant.
The investigation began following the seizure of 6 kg of cocaine and a gun found inside a car in the underground parking lot of a supermarket in the Molassana area (Genoa), which occurred in December 2022. Immediate developments made it possible to ascertain that a drug dealing operation was taking place in that location, which degenerated into an attempted robbery by the buyers.

The investigations, with the help of technical aids, have progressively brought to light the existence of two criminal groups active in drug trafficking: one of the two was found to be rooted in the province of Turin and was shown to be capable of maintaining ongoing relationships with drug traffickers based in Spain.
In this context, imports of drug shipments were detected through the border crossings of Ventimiglia and Piedmont.

The second criminal group, composed mainly of suspects of Apulian origin, residing both in Liguria and in other parts of Italy, is characterized by the fact that it is partly made up of individuals subjected to a protection program, as collaborators of justice, or family members of collaborators.
From the reconstruction of the events at the supermarket it emerged that the group of Apulians, led by a collaborator of justice, with the aim of robbing the courier, had agreed on a supply of cocaine with members of the criminal association led by two Italians resident in Spain, considered the leaders of the gang, who managed to maintain stable contacts with suppliers present in that territory.

During the investigations, which, having as their object two distinct criminal associations, were oriented in a dual direction, it was possible to identify the members of the so-called Turin group of which two 48-year-olds, with the task of coordinating the importation activity in Italian territory, and three couriers aged 41, 35 and 24, were found to be active members.
A 45-year-old woman was also involved, who was involved in providing logistical and financial support to the association, making her car available to the group, as well as receiving and sending the proceeds of drug trafficking, intended to support the group.

The activity of the Flying Squad has allowed the association to be attributed at least three importations of drug shipments into Italy, which occurred between February and April 2023. On this very date, French police arrested a courier, stopped just after the border with Spain, with 55 kg of hashish and 10 kg of marijuana hidden in his car.
As regards the group led by the collaborator of justice, it was possible to reconstruct his role in planning and participating in the attempted robbery of the drug courier, for which he availed himself, also thanks to the charisma he still has in criminal circles, of the collaboration of his son-in-law (subjected to a protection program), and of two other people, respectively a collaborator of justice and a former collaborator of justice.

During the investigations, five people were also arrested red-handed and 85 kg of marijuana and 87 kg of hashish were seized.
