On the afternoon of March 26, 2022, the soldiers of the Carabinieri company of Cesenatico (FC) arrested a crime suspect against a Moroccan citizen irregular on national territory, unemployed and single, held responsible for the crimes of sexual violence and personal injury aggravated.

As a result of detailed investigations by the Judicial Police coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Forlì - the Deputy Prosecutor Doctor Lucia Spirito - and conducted by personnel of that command, the man was identified as the perpetrator of sexual violence perpetrated on 11 February 2022, in Gatteo (FC) – Frazione Mare, to the detriment of a 60-year-old local woman.

Near the Rubicone river, the victim had been approached by the man, who, after exchanging some jokes, had pulled her and dragged her onto the adjacent beach. After repeatedly hitting her in the face, causing personal injuries, he immobilized her and forced her to undergo a sexual act before running away from her.

The investigations, started immediately following receipt of the report of the serious episode, and never interrupted, made it possible to definitively identify the suspect. In just 7 days the man disappeared and was tracked down in a small town in the province of Verona. After 12 hours of searching he was found, without identity documents and never registered, therefore untraceable.

The arrest

In light of the serious indications of guilt acquired and the existence of a concrete, evident and current danger of escape, the suspect was subjected to arrest as a suspected crime and placed at the disposal of the Deputy Prosecutor on duty of the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Verona, Doctor Alberto Sergi.

The Deputy Prosecutor, agreeing with the investigative findings collected, ordered the arrest to be transferred to the Verona Montorio prison and asked the Judge for preliminary investigations of the Court of Verona - Doctor Carola Musio - to issue a custody order precautionary sentence in prison, issued on 30 March 2022.

Immediately after the execution of the arrested man, a search was ordered at a farmhouse in the rural area where the man lived. The search brought to light clothing corresponding to those worn by the rapist at the time of committing the crime, as described by the victim and deduced by the investigators during the analysis of the images taken by the video surveillance systems installed near the place of the crime. crime.
