Foggia, they robbed postamat and cash machines with explosives: 8 people arrested

The State Police of Foggia at the first light of dawn he executed an arrest warrant for a criminal suspect issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Foggia against eight people subjected to preliminary investigations in relation to the crime of criminal association aimed at the commission of the crime of aggravated theft from ATMs and ATMs, robbery, theft in commercial establishments, possession of weapons and manufacture of handcrafted products named products “marmots”, Namely real shovels loaded at the end with potentially explosive material with a deadly and destructive offensive range similar to "explosive devices" comparable to "weapons of war" given the quantity used and the packaging methods.

Around 80 men were employed in Cerignola in the executive phase, belonging to the Flying Squad of the Foggia Police Headquarters and to other Flying Squads made available by the Central Operations Service of the Central Anti-Crime Directorate of the Department of Public Security, to the State Police Station of Cerignola, to the Crime Prevention Departments, to the Scientific Police and to the Dog Units of the State Police.

The investigative activity, started last February, arose from the commission of some robberies carried out with the use of weapons, which caused strong social alarm in the Cerignola community and which caused considerable damage to several businesses.

Investigative insights made by the personnel of the local Flying Squad and the State Police Station of Cerignola, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Foggia, allowed us to identify the recipients of today's pre-precautionary measure the components of a group, dedicated to the commission of the aforementioned crimes and, in particular, dedicated in the crime of theft from ATMs of credit companies, also located outside the province of Foggia and specifically in Basilicata, Campania and Abruzzo.

From the investigations, moreover, it is the modus operandi of the subjects emerged, which first to act they carefully studied the areas of interest, the paths to follow, escape routes and the positioning of city video surveillance cameras. According to what emerged, the same they used powerful and fast cars, often the proceeds of theft or rented, to escape as quickly as possible from the place of the criminal event.

In no time, goods stolen from commercial establishments, for example tickets "Scratch and win" and tobacco, they were then resold by them.

As regards theft from ATMs, the investigations made it possible to reconstruct how the subjects, misrepresented and armed, they used homemade explosive devices (so called marmots) to access the money deposit, also causing extensive damage to buildings; after having taken possession of the money, so as not to be reached by the Police Force, today's suspects would have used spiked bands which they threw to the ground, jeopardizing the safety of the policemen who should have chased them.

During During the investigation, several rudimentary devices were seized, wigs, burglary tools, and about 11 kg of explosives. The stolen cars recovered, were returned to their legitimate owners.

Il proceedings are pending at the preliminary investigation stage and after the execution of the pre-precautionary measure which took place today, the measure must be subjected to scrutiny by the investigating judge for its validation.
