Scicli: fire inside a house, elderly man rescued by the Carabinieri.

During the night just passed, a crew of the Radiomobile Unit of the Carabinieri Company of Modica, during the completion of their duty shift aimed at controlling the territory and respecting the rules of the Highway Code, following a request for intervention received by the The Operations Center responded promptly to a fire that broke out inside a house located in the municipality of Scicli to rescue the occupants and make the surrounding area safe.

Arriving on site, the soldiers immediately became aware of the gravity of the situation, noticing the flames and a blanket of smoke coming out of the building and, courageously, worked to save the only person inside the house, a 70-year-old who was found lying on the ground and unconscious.

Before the arrival of the Fire Brigade, the soldiers provided initial treatment to the elderly man, managing to drag him with great difficulty outside the house, in order to await the intervention of the medical staff.

At the same time, they took steps to put out the flames which in the meantime had engulfed part of the house, managing to put them out even with the use of a fire extinguisher and preventing them from spreading to the entire building, with the risk of also involving those in the neighbourhood.

Based on the investigations carried out by the Fire Brigade, the fire started accidentally due to a wax candle left burning in the room of the house.

The elderly man was transported by ambulance to the emergency room in Modica and, after initial treatment, was transferred with a reserved prognosis to the Catania Burns Center by helicopter. The soldiers who intervened were also examined by medical personnel following a slight intoxication due to inhalation of smoke.

Tonight's episode, emblematic of the importance and efficiency of the emergency response system of the Carabinieri, has made it possible to achieve, once again, one of the institutional objectives that every Carabiniere tries to achieve on a daily basis, namely that of be of assistance and support to citizens. The courage and self-sacrifice shown by the workers were certainly the fundamental elements that made it possible to avoid more serious consequences.
