The journalist has died at the age of 68 Franco DiMare. The family announced it in a note: “Embraced by the love of his wife, daughter, sisters and brother and by the affection of his dearest friends, the journalist Franco Di Mare passed away in Rome”. The former war correspondent had announced that he had «mesothelioma, a very bad tumor».
The journalist and presenter, former director of RaiTre, was born in Naples on 8 July 1955. Graduated in Political Sciences at the Federico II University, he spent most of his journalistic career in Rai, after the beginning Unity e Radiocor.
The journalist had thrilled the audience after he was a guest to present his book “The words to say it, the war inside and outside of us” (Sem editors) in a dramatic apparition, a What's the weather like, where he revealed that he was seriously ill: «I have a very bad tumor, mesothelioma: it is caught by breathing asbestos particles. I have little left to live but it's not over yet.".
The last post is dated May 4th, to thank all those who supported him. To Fazio, it was April 28th, he had said, «as a war correspondent I breathed asbestos: I am calm and I don't give up, but there is no cure from this», going into the details of a story that shocked the public even due to its heavy-handedness statements on the behavior that Rai treated him after the discovery of the disease.
The Rai leaders immediately afterwards made it known that they were unaware of his affair and in the following days they explained that they had sent Di Mare the information he had requested. The 68-year-old journalist had linked his illness to his many reports as a war correspondent, especially in the former Yugoslavia.

A passion that also accompanied him in the programs conducted subsequently, in the managerial roles held and in the experience of the 'Frontiere' investigation program he conducted until 2023.
