Earthquake of magnitude 4.6 in the province of Campobasso.
An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 it was recorded at 23pm yesterday in the province of Campobasso. According to data from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Ingv), the earthquake had a hypocenter at a depth of 23 km and an epicenter near Montagano.
As well as in Molise, the shock was also clearly felt in some neighboring areas of Campania, of Puglia, of Abruzzo and Lazio.
There is great fear among the inhabitants, but at the moment there are no reports of damage to people or things.
For days the Molise subsoil has been nervous, and there have been many small tremors clearly felt by the population. Hundreds of people spent the night in cars in Campobasso and other hinterland towns. "We were afraid – some of them say – and we preferred to stay in the car». Many have moved away from population centers and stopped in car parks in peripheral areas. In Campobasso, people on the street at night with blankets and suitcases in tow.
Today schools are closed in many municipalities: there are at least thirty mayors who have communicated the suspension of lessons, especially in the Campobasso area but there are also centers in lower Molise and the province of Isernia. The technicians are carrying out checks in the school buildings.
