Drug seizure in the Cosenza area, second illegal marijuana production plant discovered.
Yesterday, State Police personnel carried out, as part of the extraordinary services arranged by the Police Commissioner of the Province of Cosenza and coordinated by the local Public Prosecutor's Office, various checks in the province, aimed at combating drug trafficking.
During these services, personnel from the local Flying Squad and from the Corigliano-Rossano Police Station carried out a search at a property located in the municipality of Luzzi (CS), finding an illegal plant for the cultivation and the production of marijuana as well as copious narcotic substances, some of which are already packaged and ready to be marketed.
Inside the building, among other things, greenhouses had been built both for the first planting of the bulbs and for the home of the marijuana plants that had already taken root. Specifically, the operators proceeded to seize dozens of plastic bags, containing narcotic substances such as marijuana, for a total weight of approximately 235 kg and no. 6 vacuum bags, containing marijuana-type narcotic substances for a total weight of approximately 15 kg. In addition to the astonishing, copious material instrumental to the production cycle was found, including: power supplies, heaters, fans, shredders, greenhouse lamps, thermostats, suction filters, a complex electrical panel made up of circuit breakers, multiple sockets and timers, vacuum cleaners, aeration hoses, seed planting mats, as well as hundreds of bags and pots containing soil, dozens of bins of liquid fertilizer and peat discs. The structure was also internally equipped with a video surveillance system. the theft of electricity by the individuals who had built the system was also established, who, through fraudulent actions, had limited the recording of real consumption. The equipment found, which was seized on the occasion, is estimated to be worth several tens of thousands of euros, while the narcotic substance, overall, would have brought in over 500.000 euros in the illicit retail market.
Investigations are underway by investigators to identify and attribute criminal responsibilities to the individuals who had started the flourishing activity of cultivation and production of narcotics inside the seized property.
Yesterday's seizure follows the one carried out a few days earlier in S. Sofia d'Epiro when the police, as part of an investigation coordinated by the Castrovillari Prosecutor's Office, seized another plant for the production of marijuana, set up with complex equipment. On that occasion the police arrested 4 people and found 241 kg of marijuana ready for marketing.
