On this topic, the Italian Federation of healthcare and hospital companies has launched thealarm regarding the elderly and frail. "The heat wave and the increase in the circulation of Covid in these days raise some concern for the health conditions of the elderly and frail. This convergence of two adverse circumstances must make us keep our guard up to avoid and multiply the efforts of active monitoring by general practitioners who know the condition of their patients", the president declared John Better.
«In recent weeks there has been a significant increase in Covid cases - he adds Best -. It is a signal that deserves attention even if the absolute numbers are still decidedly low and there is no pressure on hospitals. The patients we are registering arrive presenting mild respiratory symptoms but above all for the treatment of other pathologies but "with Covid", that is, positivity is found after the swab. If we look at the incidence by age, the highest rate is among the elderly. This must lead us to adopt responsible behavior that does not support the spread of infections".
As of 17 July, the occupancy of beds in the medical area was 1,9% (1.183 hospitalised), substantially stable compared to the previous week (1,6% as of 10 July). The occupancy of intensive care beds was also stable, at 0,5% (43 hospitalised), compared to the previous week (0,5% on 10 July). Hospitalization and mortality rates are increasingly higher in older age groups.
The transmissibility index (Rt) is equal to 1,20 (1,08-1,32), a slight increase compared to the previous week. The incidence of Covid-19 cases diagnosed and reported in the period 11/07 – 17/07 is equal to 15 cases per 100.000 inhabitants, a slight increase compared to the previous week, although remaining low (9 cases per 100.000 inhabitants in the week 04/07) 10 – 07/XNUMX).
The weekly incidence (11/07 – 17/07) of diagnosed and reported cases is slightly increasing in most Regions compared to the previous week. The highest incidence was reported in Lazio (29 cases per 100.000 inhabitants) and the lowest in Marche (<0,5 cases per 100.000 inhabitants).
The age groups that record the highest weekly incidence rate are 80-89 and above 90 years. The weekly incidence is increasing in most age groups. The median age at diagnosis is 61 years, a slight decrease compared to the previous week. The percentage of reinfections is approximately 49%, a slight increase compared to the previous week.
