Chiavari (Genoa), fake police officers get elderly people to hand over money and jewelry: two young people arrested.

The State Police reported in two separate operations two individuals, not residing in Genoa, aged 18 and 20 for the crime of aggravated fraud to the detriment of elderly people.

The victims were deceived in Chiavari last March with the now well-known method of pretending to belong to the police force who invited them to hand over money or jewels to a person in charge to avoid legal problems for their children involved in a road accident.

The two elderly people fell for the scam and they gave the first the sum of 15 thousand euros in jewels, while the second 5 thousand euros in cash.

The identification of the two was made possible thanks to the police personnel who carried out the first immediate intervention and the subsequent activity of the investigative team of the Chiavari police station which started the investigations.

Since the beginning of the year, the operators of the Chiavari police station have identified and referred to the judicial authorities numerous people responsible for scams, thefts and pickpocketing committed against elderly people, also thanks to the support of the cameras of the municipal video surveillance system. To support the investigative activity, the police station staff carries out assiduous information activities aimed at possible victims of scams.
