Castelvetrano: the State Police and the Carabinieri arrest a 46-year-old entrepreneur for extortion.

Trapani. In the past few hours, the State Police and the Carabinieri of Trapani have jointly arrested a 46-year-old man from Castelvetrano, sentenced to six years in prison for extortion committed in 2012 against an entrepreneur active in the construction sector.

The episode was documented as part of an investigation launched, in those years, by the Trapani Flying Squad and the Operations Department of that capital, against belonging to the mafia families of Castellammare del Golfo (TP).
In that context, the man was investigated as a subject close to the criminal groups mentioned, from which he would have been in charge of collect the sums requested by way of extortion. Acquitted of the charge of mafia-style criminal association, the man was nevertheless convicted of the single extortion episode.

In 2016, the arrested person, at the time a municipal councilor in Castelvetrano (TP), was the protagonist of a television report on "The Hyenas show”, for the solidarity and closeness expressed in favor of leading exponents of mafia crime local, including Matteo Messina Denaro. During the broadcast, he then confirmed that he had known and frequented the then fugitive. The episode led to his immediate suspension from political office.
