Cassino: Fraud of fake road accident to the detriment of an elderly lady, arrested
The officers of the Cassino Highway Police Sub-section, during a service aimed at combating the widespread phenomenon of scams against elderly people, They intensified patrols on the motorway to identify any suspicious vehicles.
Despite the heavy traffic and typical highway speeds, the officers managed to identify a suspicious vehicle and proceeded to stop and check the occupant, who turned out to have numerous police records and was also providing evasive statements regarding the reason for the trip.
The intuition of the "road police centaurs" proved correct, in fact during the search of the vehicle, the police found, well hidden, a bag containing numerous gold jewels. The investigations led the Highway Police investigators to discover a new scam against an elderly woman, this time in the Marche region.
With the help of the Local Police and the Falconara Marittima Carabinieri Station, they managed to identify an eighty-year-old woman, victim of the scam of “fake car accident involving a family member.” The woman had been contacted by telephone by a self-styled Captain of the Carabinieri who told her of a road accident caused by her son who had hit a pregnant woman and was being held at their barracks and that in order to be released he had to pay bail.
Shortly after, a presumed plainclothes carabiniere showed up at his home to collect the bail; as he did not have large sums of money at home, the man had 1.000 euros in cash and numerous gold jewels worth approximately 10.000 euros handed over to him. The Cassino Highway Police officers, following the reconstruction of the facts and the outcome of the investigations, coordinated by the Deputy Prosecutor of the Cassino Public Prosecutor's Office, Dr. Fioranelli, arrested the occupant of the vehicle and took him to prison.
The arrest was validated by the Judge of the Court of Cassino, with the simultaneous issuing of a precautionary measure of house arrest for the perpetrator of the fraud. Often serious news involving our loved ones make us lose self-control and lucidity, but the State Police draws attention to these scam methods, warning against believing anyone who orders the delivery of jewelry or money.
