From 11 to 15 November, South Tyrol will be the stage for the Cybersecurity Week 2024, with a particular focus on the management of cyber incidents. During Cyberweek, companies, institutions and local public administrations will have the opportunity to participate in practical exercises and workshops, with the aim of improving their response capabilities to cyber threats, both from an organizational and operational point of view.
The first day, Monday 11 November, in the internal courtyard of Palazzo Widmann in Bolzano, will be dedicated to local public administrations, State Police and private companies in the South Tyrolean territorySpeakers will include Roberto Caramia, division head of CSIRT Italy, and Aldo di Somma, deputy division head of CSIRT Italy.
"Strengthening the cyber security of infrastructures is of crucial importance for the Province of Bolzano”, declared the provincial councillor for Security and Prevention of Violence, Ulli Mair, at the opening. “For this reason, the presence of the National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN) at the Cyberweek Alto Adige 2024 is an opportunity to deepen and strengthen our defense and response strategies to cyber incidents. It is important to collaborate closely to improve the defense capacity of our territory".
On November 12, the event, reserved for local public administrations and the State Police, will move to the NOI Techpark in Bolzano. The role of the CSIRT will be at the center (Computer Security Incident Response Team) of Informatica Alto Adige.
""The role of the territorial CSIRT is crucial to guarantee the cybersecurity of public and private digital infrastructures in South Tyrol”, said the general manager of Informatica Alto Adige, Stefan Gasslitter. “Thanks to the synergy with the Province of Bolzano, institutions and local law enforcement, we are able to monitor emerging threats, respond quickly to incidents and support the implementation of effective security measures.".
A concept also reiterated by the president of Informatica Alto Adige, Oscar de Iorio, according to whom "the value of cybersecurity has never been so central to the protection of our territory and our communities”. And, adds Francesco Terracciano, CISO and ACN representative, “the implementation of the European directives (NIS2) and national legislation (law 90 of 2024) represents a crucial step to strengthen the cybersecurity of critical infrastructures, aiming for a higher and more standardized level of protection on a national and European scale”.
From 13 to 15 November, at the NOI Techpark in Bolzano, three days dedicated to the specialized professional training of the State Police personnel operating in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano. "With the introduction of the NIS2 regulation, prevention and counteraction activities have been intensified and harmonised with European safety standards.”, highlighted the Police Chief of Bolzano, General Manager of Public Safety Dr. Paolo Sartori. “Cyberweek represents an opportunity to raise awareness among South Tyrolean citizens about the risks of the digital world and to show our commitment to protecting local cyber security.".
Finally, the point on the role of the Postal Police and Cyber Security, in response to cyber threats.
"The role of the Postal and Cyber Security Police is to support the Judicial Authority in carrying out investigations following cyber attacks as well as to prevent their commission by implementing a widespread and widespread prevention and information activity aimed at the authorities, local public bodies and the productive world, aimed at protecting against cyber threats, in close synergy with the territorial CSIRT and the other institutions involved.”, said Deputy Police Commissioner Dr. Alberto Di Cuffa, Director of the “Trentino-Alto Adige” Cyber Security Operations Centre in Trento.
In his closing speech, Senior Inspector Corrado Palmarin, Head of the Operational Section for Cyber Security in Bolzano, underlined the dual mission of the South Tyrolean branch of the Postal Police and Cyber Security."prevent and combat cyber crimes, providing the necessary technical contribution to companies and local bodies to manage emergency situations and, above all, information and investigative support to the Judicial Authority in carrying out its institutional duties in the field of repressing cyber crimes".
