Blitz against gangmasters in Caltanissetta: 8 precautionary measures.
They threatened them with death to force them to accept inhuman conditions to which they subjected them. The victims, the workers recruited for work in the countryside, would have triggered the first reports culminating in the blitz with which the police carried out 8 precautionary measures in Caltanissetta.
One of the suspects was subjected to house arrest, another was subjected to the obligation to remain at home and other owners of agricultural companies were banned for one year from carrying out their business activities.
“From listening to some Pakistani citizens – we read in the ordinance – it emerged that an Italian man was recruiting, near the Caltanissetta station, every morning at 5 of the non-EU workers to take them to the countryside of Delia and Agrigento to work".
The workers, interviewed by the Flying Squad investigators, revealed “to receive small daily wages for 8 hours of work a day, performed in the absence of safety conditions in the workplace". Again according to what was declared by the workers, the latter were seen “forced to accept the conditions of exploitation because they were in a state of need”.
All 8 suspects are available to the Judicial Authority for future phases of the criminal proceedings.
