Benabbio, Bagni di Lucca: the alleged perpetrators, two minors, of the car fires that occurred in July 2022 have been identified by the Carabinieri. 

In July 2022, a series of car fires occurred which disturbed the peace of the quiet hamlet of Benabbio in Bagni di Lucca. First one truck set on fire then three other vehicles burned the following day, among the latter another pickup truck, while a fourth car had been moved by the owners before it was affected by the spread of the flames.

The first investigations by the Carabinieri of the local Station and the Operations Unit of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, supported by the technical inspections of the Fire Brigade, had immediately directed the investigators towards themalicious origin of the events, fueling an understandable disquiet also felt among the inhabitants of the hamlet that they just couldn't explain the reasons for what was happening. Not even the owners of the cars, all characterized by a quiet life and without personal or professional shadows, were able to provide reasons or suspicions about anyone.

Finally, it was the investigations of the Carabinieri of the Castelnuovo di Garfagnana Operations Unit, which began without particular clues, that gave a surprising result, identifying the two alleged minor perpetrators, who were referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office for Minors of Florence for the crime of damage followed by fire.

A meticulous activity, made up of laborious investigations and which were finally focused towards the two boys, now aged 15 and 17, on which the Carabinieri of the Unit then continued to investigate, collecting sources of evidence that in addition to the dispute on the responsibility for the fires, would also credit them as the alleged perpetrators of a home burglary committed in the first ten days of June 2022 to the detriment of an elderly lady from Benabbio, robbed during her absence from home of electronic material and valuables.

If the Judicial results were to confirm the effectiveness of the accusations made against the minors, there would still be concern about the conduct of arsonists, which was found to be gratuitous and unmotivated.
