Bari, The Bari State Police has arrested a 31-year-old Egyptian citizen who is legally resident in the national territory, with a previous conviction and held responsible for the crimes of kidnapping, sexual violence and illegal carrying of weapons or objects capable of offending.
The man, subjected to a check in Piazza Umberto because he was not wearing the mask correctly, was found to be a person with a criminal record and, subjected to a search, was found in possession of a switchblade. During the checks, he appeared very nervous and tried in every way to avoid providing information regarding the address of his home. This attitude aroused suspicion among the police who, after having managed to trace the 31-year-old's home, decided to carry out a house search at his home, located in the city center area. Once there, the officers found that the front door, despite being equipped with a regular lock, was also secured with a padlock that could only be opened from the outside. On site, the Egyptian citizen refused several times to open the access door, despite repeated invitations from the officers. After a few minutes, the police managed to get the keys and entered the house. The scenario that presented itself to their eyes was disturbing: inside, in fact, a 21-year-old woman, originally from a town in the province of Bari, was locked up.
The young woman said she voluntarily left her home in December 2020 due to disagreements with her family of origin. Through some of her acquaintances, she had been put in contact with the Egyptian citizen who had offered her hospitality. After an initial period of regular cohabitation, the girl claims, the man decided to segregate her: he sexually abused her several times, forbade her from going out alone, prevented her from using the mobile phone and darkened it with panels. stickers on all the windows of the house. The girl declared that she could only go out in the company of her tormentor: the front door, in fact, was always secured with padlocks, even when the man was in her house; only he possessed the keys. Furthermore, following the violence she suffered, the 21-year-old reported that she was pregnant; you are currently entrusted to the assistance of the staff of an Anti-Violence Centre.
Arrested, the man was associated with the Bari prison and will have to answer for the crimes of kidnapping, sexual violence and illegal possession of weapons or objects capable of offending.
