Bacoli: attempted murder of a Guardia di Finanza officer, three arrests for bomb manufacturing

By delegation of the Public Prosecutor of Naples, it is hereby communicated that, on 16 October, within the scope of investigative activities coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples, the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Naples carried out a precautionary custody order, issued by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations of the Court of Naples, against three subjects considered to be seriously suspected, to varying degrees, of manufacturing of an explosive device and participation in attempted aggravated murder to the detriment of a Senior Officer of the Guardia di Finanza, which took place at bacoli (NA), the 21 March 2023.

From the investigative findings, it emerged that the material perpetrator of the crime, already arrested on October 16, 2023 by the military of the Investigative Nucleus of Naples, always coordinated by the Neapolitan Judicial Authority, following another personal restrictive measure issued by the GIP of the capital, acted on behalf of the Officer's ex-partner, which in turn was able to count on the material contribution from two other subjects for the packaging of the homemade device, but not improvised, used for the serious bomb attack.

The measure executed is a precautionary measure, issued during preliminary investigations, against which appeals are permitted, and the recipients of the measure are persons under investigation and therefore presumed innocent until a final sentence is reached.

By delegation of the District Attorney of Naples, it is hereby communicated that - on the morning of 17 October 2023 - the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit of Naples carried out a precautionary custody order, issued by the GIP of the Court of Naples at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office of the capital, against a person investigated for the attempted murder of a Senior Officer of the Guardia di Finanza in service in Naples, with the aggravating circumstance of premeditation, and for having made, possessed and brought into a public place an improvised explosive device.

The enforcement order of the prison in question carried out by the investigators of the Arma summarizes the results of a complex investigative activity, started in March 2023 following a serious bomb attack suffered by the injured party, who was the victim of a violent explosion caused by a homemade explosive device placed on board the car in use at the time. The Senior Officer of the Guardia di Finanza was driving the vehicle when the explosive device was activated by the suspect, who was presumably a few meters from the site of the explosion. The victim managed to escape unharmed. from their vehicle despite the violent explosion that resulted having completely destroyed the car in a few minutes and, in fact, some pieces of the car, of a certain size, having been found more than 60 metres from the site of the explosion, testifying to the lethal nature of the unconventional device used.

In addition to the arrest of the alleged culprit by the military of the Investigative Unit of Naples, always on delegation of the Public Prosecutor's Office of the capital of Campania, some investigations were also carried out personal home searches aimed both at strengthening the accusatory system contested in this preliminary phase, and at finding any useful elements for the purpose of identifying the potential instigators of this bloody criminal action, reasonably to be framed in a more complex context, equally the object of necessary investigative investigation by the investigators.

The restrictive measure executed represents a precautionary measure ordered during preliminary investigations, against which the legal system allows for appeal, and the recipient of the measure is a person under investigation and therefore presumed innocent until a final sentence. In the following days, the preliminary hearing of the subject under caution took place before the GIP of the Court of Naples.
