The "Safety Heroes" were awarded at the Giro d'Italia thanks to the recognition requested by the Traffic Police and Autostrade per l'Italia.

The Safety Heroes awards ceremony starts again with the Giro d'Italia, an initiative now in its 12th edition, born from the collaboration between State Police e Autostrade per l'Italia, to enhance the work of the agents and motorway workers who every day monitor the traffic on the high-flow arteries along the country.

At the start of the Corsa Rosa, in Vasto, the Assistant Chief Coordinators of the State Police were awarded Luca Decollibus ed Enrico Di Brigida. The Traffic Police instead awarded recognition for the commitment shown in their work to the operations operator Mirko Giuliacci, for helping users in difficulty during a heavy storm.

During the various stages of the Giro, the sports awards stage will host 20 operators from the Traffic Police, with whom ASPI works in close collaboration on a daily basis to guarantee the safety of users traveling on the motorways. At the same time, the Traffic Police will award recognition along the stages from the South to the North of Italy to 10 operators of the Autostrade per l'Italia Group who have demonstrated strong dedication to their work, putting skills and commitment at the service of users that are well suited beyond their daily duties.

The stories:

Last autumn, during a storm of exceptional intensity, the Radio Information Center of the Pescara Section Directorate received reports of flooding on the motorway. The operator of the business, Mirko Giuliacci, having arrived on site, promptly noticed the landslide of the land in a field adjacent to the motorway site. Despite the very poor visibility, Giuliacci immediately reported the danger to users in transit, avoiding the worst.

In November last year, an articulated lorry loaded with timber proceeded at an uncertain pace on the A14, endangering motorists. The Assistant Chief Coordinators Luca Decollibus and Enrico Brigida, on road surveillance duty on that stretch of motorway, overtook the heavy vehicle and, by activating the safety car procedure, managed to slow down its travel, driving the articulated lorry to the Mosciano Sant toll booth. 'Angelo and thus being able to ascertain the impaired state of the driver, who tested positive for alcohol.
